The flowdrill contacts the material using a relatively high axial pressure and rotational speed. The heat generated makes the material soft and malleable enough to be shaped and perforated.
When the Flowdrill is pushed into the material, some of the extruded material forms a collar around the top surface of the workpiece.
The rest of the material forms a sleeve on the lower surface of the workpiece. All this happens in a matter of seconds. The process does not disturb the internal structure of the material.
As a result, the shaped case is remarkably strong and can be used to hold cases or to make a thread inside.
